What is a home energy assessment?
A home energy assessment is a practical review of how your home uses energy and where improvements could be made. During the assessment, an experienced assessor will look at areas such as heating and cooling, hot water, appliances, insulation, draughts, windows and shading, as well as how your household uses energy.
After the assessment, you will receive tailored recommendations to help you understand which improvements may provide the greatest benefit for your home, budget and lifestyle.
How can a home energy assessment help?

Make the most of your assessment
Before the assessment:
- Have recent electricity and gas bills available, if possible.
- Think about which rooms are difficult to keep warm or cool.
- Make a note of any draughts, condensation or other comfort issues.
- Find out approximately how old your heating, cooling and hot water systems are.
- Think about any upgrades you are already thinking about.

Book a home energy assessment
You can book your home energy assessment through the Home Energy Program. You can also find an assessor through the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS), a national government scheme designed to help you understand how much energy your home uses.
