Apply now for a grant to help boost female participation in sport

Friday, January 12, 2024

Applications for the City of Whittlesea’s Female Inclusion in Sport Grant Program is now open.

In partnership with DPV Health, the initiative aims to boost female participation in our vibrant community's sporting clubs and address the current underrepresentation of women and girls in sports as participants and leaders.

Statistics reveal that only half of Victorian women are currently sufficiently active, emphasising the need for targeted efforts to bridge the gap in sports participation.

Sporting clubs within the City of Whittlesea can apply for financial support of up to $3,000 for initiatives promoting an inclusive environment for women and girls. Initiatives can include new player programs, coach training, and leadership programs aimed at developing female leaders within clubs.

In 2023, Lalor Tennis Club used the grant to provide coaching and leadership courses to three young women actively participating in the club. This opportunity not only brought a fresh perspective to the club but also ensured ongoing sustainability for the junior girls' programs, facilitated the provision of more female coaches, and built skills in young women who represent the club's future.

President of Lalor Tennis Club, Elizabeth, said grant provided a pathway for young women to remain invested in tennis.

“It also brought a new focus on community engagement through social media platforms and introducing various activities and events,” she said.

The City of Whittlesea is dedicated to ensuring equal opportunities for women and girls in all aspects of sport and encourages local sports clubs to seize the opportunity presented by the Female Inclusion in Sport Grant Program.
