City of Whittlesea’s FReeZA Crew looking for local talent

City of Whittlesea’s FReeZA Crew looking for local talent

Monday, January 22, 2024

The City of Whittlesea FReeZA Crew are on the lookout for local young artists, aged 12 to 25, eager to perform a paid gig in an intimate and unplugged setting, at a FReeZA/Westfield event on Friday 1 March 2024.

Held in the vibrant outdoor dining precinct of Westfield Plenty Valley, this music event will showcase the incredible talents of young local performers in various music genres.

This event is part of the City of Whittlesea's FReeZA program, a State Government initiative that offers young people the chance to lead the planning and staging of music and cultural events. These events are alcohol, drug, smoke, and vape-free, and specifically tailored for young people in our local community. The program provides paid opportunities for young local artists keen to perform in their community.

Expressions of interest to perform at the event are now open and will close on Thursday 25 January. This paid performance opportunity is open to duos, solo artists, DJs, and musical theatre.

Sandy, a young resident from Lalor, has been an integral part of FReeZA since 2022. Facing challenges with university Sandy found solace and inspiration in the FReeZA program. Since joining, Sandy has participated in workshops such as lyric writing and recording, digital music composition and DJ'ing and mixing.

“Since joining FReeZA as a performer and committee member, I have connected with amazing individuals and performed in front of hundreds of people at many events, including the Westfield event and the City of Whittlesea’s Community Festival,” Sandy said.

“This experience has not only boosted my confidence in my musical journey but has also allowed me to achieve significant milestones within a year. I am immensely grateful for the unwavering support I have received from the FReeZA Crew. Their encouragement and guidance have been invaluable to me, and I couldn't have asked for a better support system.”

We are eager to connect with all local young people with musical talents, including bands and rappers interested in paid performance opportunities throughout the year.
