Whittlesea Public Gardens transformation rolls on

Wednesday, October 18, 2023

Lalor is skating towards its latest upgrade as the City of Whittlesea announces a significant step forward in the redevelopment of Whittlesea Public Gardens in Lalor.

At the October Council Meeting, the contract for the Whittlesea Public Gardens skate park and youth space was awarded, marking a significant milestone in Council’s commitment to creating a vibrant space for younger residents.

Acting Chair Administrator at the City of Whittlesea, Peita Duncan, said she was delighted the second stage of the park’s redevelopment would begin soon.

"With the construction contract now awarded, we're a step closer to creating a contemporary space where young people can come together, embrace the outdoors, and maintain an active lifestyle."

“The upcoming transformation will feature a street-style skate park, climbing wall, a dynamic 3-on-3 basketball court and a kick-about space complete with soccer goals.”

“Furthermore, the incorporation of designated picnic facilities will offer an inviting space for community gatherings, leisure, and the enjoyment of quality time with friends and family” Peita said.

The transformation of Whittlesea Public Gardens is a collaborative effort, with the City of Whittlesea investing $2 million and the Victorian Government’s contributing $650,000 from the Growing Suburbs Fund.

This second stage of the redevelopment is set to complement the new play space and learn-to-ride area completed late last year.

Future stages will see an upgrade to the car park, ensuring the redeveloped spaces can be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

The next stage of the redevelopment of Whittlesea Public Gardens is set to commence in late November.
